I’m going to go over everything you need to know about Fortnite split screen so you know how to enable it for the PlayStation and the Xbox. Xbox players have the chance to test out split screen with their console. It’s very simple to enable, so just make sure to follow the steps below and you and your friends are good to go. It’s important to note that you can only play split screen in duo’s or squads… for obvious reasons.
- Start Fortnite and Create a Lobby: Sign in with your main account and set up a Duo or Squad lobby.
- Activate Second Controller: Power on your second Xbox controller and press the Xbox button to open the side menu.
- Sign In Second Player: Use “Switch Profile” to log in with a different Xbox account or create a new one. After signing in, hold down the "A" button to join Fortnite's lobby, linking a separate Fortnite account if prompted.
- Link Existing Fortnite Account: If the second player has a Fortnite account from another platform, link it by entering the provided code on Epic Games’ activation website.
Once you’ve completed these simple steps you’ll be able to play split screen with your friends in the comfort of your own home. No annoying Discord calls or anything. Pretty nice, eh?

Not only can you play Fortnite split screen with Xbox, but it’s also available on PlayStation. The steps to enable split screen in Fortnite for the PlayStation are just as simple as for the Xbox, so follow the instructions below and you should be good to jump head first onto the island.
- Start Fortnite and Create a Lobby: Launch Fortnite using your primary PlayStation Network account and set up either a Duo or Squad Lobby since split-screen is limited to these modes.
- Activate Second Controller: Turn on your second controller and log in with a different PlayStation Network account when prompted.
- Join as Player Two: Look for a menu prompt in the bottom right of the screen and press and hold "X" to log in as the second player. This action might restart Fortnite, and you may need to link an additional account.
- Link Fortnite Account: If the second player has a pre-existing Fortnite account, they should enter the code shown on the screen on the Epic Games activation page to link their account.
If the second player lacks a Fortnite account or opts not to link an existing one, you must set up a new Epic account for them. Visit the Fortnite login page and create an account using either an email address or the second player’s PlayStation Network account.
Fortnite Split Screen For PC and Nintendo Switch
Currently, Fortnite's split-screen mode is only supported on PlayStation and Xbox, but not on Nintendo Switch or PC. The limitation on the Nintendo Switch stems from its inability to simultaneously handle two instances of Fortnite due to hardware constraints. However, this may change with the potential release of an upgraded Switch 2 in the future.
