I’ve been hearing about Boxed.gg for a while, and even gotten several requests to do a comprehensive review of the platform. Well, I’ve listened to my readers, and here I am with a detailed Boxed.gg review.
First, I registered on the site, a process that took only seconds to complete. As a new player, I received a free box and three different starter packs to choose from. Interestingly, there was a lot to explore on the platform, including player-versus-player battles, vending machines, and a forge option. Keep reading to get all the details.

Boxed.gg is a mystery box site that was launched by Loot Labs in 2022. Like similar brands I’ve used, Boxed.gg allows you to purchase an online mystery box containing a variety of items. These can be Pokémon cards, Riftbound cards, sports trading cards, and CS:GO skins. You open your box, and one of the items inside is randomly awarded to you.
While you can see all the items in the box, it’s impossible to know which one you will get after unboxing. On the bright side, Boxed.gg clearly states the value of each item and the chances of landing them. Basically, more valuable items are harder to get, so I was not surprised to land a low-value card when I opened my first box.
The first thing I noticed about this platform is its focus on trading cards and Counter-Strike skins. It sorts these collectibles into various categories, including the following:
| Category | Examples of boxes |
| Pokemon | Secret Stash, Birthday Pikachu, and Mega Ascension |
| Magic: The Gathering (MTG) | Lorwyn Eclipsed, Enter the Void, and Edge of Eternities |
| One Piece | Pirate Box Bounty, Diamond Luffy, and Devil Child’s Legacy |
| Riftbound | Hexcore Herald, Runic Reliquary, and Meta Stomp |
| Sports | 2 Gem Slam Dunk and McDavid Hunt |
| Counter-Strike 2 | Golden Legacy, Gem Hunter, and Ocean Blue |
| Others (Yu-Gi-Oh, Star Wars, and Lorcana) | May The Fourth Be With You, Mickey Mouse, and Mulan’s Legacy |
Before I go further in this Boxed.gg review, let me quickly state that the platform is legit and safe. Loot Labs Inc, the mastermind behind the brand, is headquartered in Seattle and backed by the same big names that supported Epic Games and Discord. I dug deeper into the company and found that it comprises tech experts with a wealth of experience, so they know what they’re doing.
The brand uses SSL encryption to protect the details you share on its site. For added security, there’s multi-factor authentication, which you can easily activate from your profile settings. Once this is enabled, the website will request extra codes or PINs in addition to your password whenever you want to log in.
Another safety highlight is the provably fair technology. This is the algorithm behind every unboxing process. It allows you to verify the fairness of your unboxing sessions, making it impossible for an external party to mess with the results. This was the same thing I found when trying to answer the question, Is Jemlit legit?
As a legit site, Boxed.gg can request a three-step account verification process at any time. You confirm your Discord account for the first step, verify your phone number for the second, and complete a full KYC verification for the third.
I got one free box after signing up. This isn’t the most I’ve received as a welcome bonus on mystery box sites, but it was enough to give me a taste of the platform. There was no need to use a Boxed.gg promo code or fund my account. Once I registered, I was given the option to select the kind of box I wanted. I opted for One-Piece and received a themed box from which I pulled Perona – Legacy of the Master.
Besides the free box, there were three limited-time starter packs:
Gems are the in-house currency that you use to open boxes on the platform. So, when depositing, you’re not just funding your account. Instead, you’re buying Gems that you will use for your unboxing sessions.
Meanwhile, keys unlock boxes. With a bronze key, you can open a box worth 50 to 199 Gems, while a silver key opens a box worth 200 to 499 gems. The gold key is more valuable as it opens boxes worth 500 to 999 Gems.
Boxed.gg has other promotions you can claim after the welcome bonus, but the Luckback system is the star of the show. I consider it the site’s loyalty program as it uses a level-based approach.
There are six levels overall; you’re automatically enrolled in the first after you sign up. As you open boxes on the site, you receive XP that keeps accumulating till you have enough to move to a higher tier. Every time you level up, you get free daily boxes and better odds of landing valuable items.
Under the Luckback system, you receive “Shards” every time you pull an item with a lower value than what you paid for the box. You can exchange those Shards for the items and keys listed in the Luckback section.
Other promotions to look forward to include:
Most activities at Boxed.gg revolve around opening boxes. However, the operator puts an interesting twist on the experience by offering unboxing in different modes. Check them out below:
If you want to add a competitive edge to your session, participate in battles. These are player-vs-player contests where you open boxes alongside other players and try to win more items.
You can join an existing battle or create your own. If you prefer to join a live one, simply go through the battles list, find those that are open, pay the entry fee, and join. But if you prefer creating a battle, you have a variety of tools at your fingertips.
First, you select the number of players you want. This can be 2, 3, 4, or you play in two teams, each comprising two players. After that, select the boxes that will be opened in the battle, and choose one of four game modes:
| Mode | Detail |
| Standard | The player or team with the highest-value items wins |
| Shared | All participants equally share the value of the collected items |
| Crazy | The player or team with the lowest-value item wins |
| Group unboxing | You keep whatever you get from opening a box |
Under Forge, you can build your own box and list it on the site for other players to buy. You start by selecting the box category you want, which can be any of what I listed earlier. Then, you name the box, pick an image, add items, set the pull rates, and the commission you will receive for every purchase. Once the settings are done, tap “Forge” and watch your box go live.
The vending machine seems identical to the regular boxes, but it is unique in its own way. Instead of “boxes,” you get virtual vending machines that contain 250+ trading cards, which are constantly updated. You pay to use the machine, and one of the items within is randomly awarded to you. For every pull, you’re guaranteed to get an NM Single (an ungraded card in Near Mint condition) or a slab (physical cards that have been graded and sealed).
When I first launched Boxed.gg, I found it slightly overwhelming. There’s a lot happening at once on the homepage, and everything I hovered over seemed to move. It took a few seconds for me to adjust to the site’s layout, but once I did, it was smooth sailing.
Visually, the website is appealing. The background is a deep blue, but this is complemented by bright game icons and clear text. A blue box-headed character seems to be the website’s mascot, as he appears on most tabs and gives the site a more fun, relaxing look.
You will find that the layout is pretty standard once you’ve gotten over the animated icons. The major tabs, including Games, Rewards, Marketplace, and Leaderboard, are at the top. You can hover over each one to reveal the other options under it.
Each section is also quite organized. For instance, under the “boxes,” there are clear categories, a search function, and multiple filtering options. You can even add a box to your favorites list simply by tapping the heart icon that’s at the top left of the box. The website also loads quickly, provided you have a solid internet connection.
Boxed.gg does not have an app. While this is a downside, it’s quite common for mystery box platforms to operate only via a site, so I wasn’t bothered by the absence of an app. Instead, I focused on the website’s performance on smaller screens.
I must say that for a busy website, it does a good job on mobile devices. There are still animations, but fewer than those you see on a larger display. The streamlined layout particularly appealed to me, as most tabs were compiled into a menu. So, I just had to click the hamburger icon at the bottom left to view them. Besides this layout change, I had access to the same offerings.
You need Gems to open boxes. Now, you might go searching for Boxed.gg gift codes that can be redeemed for Gems, but I suggest making a direct purchase from the mystery box site. That’s because most codes I’ve seen are fake or expired. Thankfully, purchasing Gems on Boxed.gg is easy. Once you log into your account, you tap the deposit icon, and you’ll see the different Gem packages available.
The platform supports Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, and four different cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Tether (USDT), for top-ups. You can buy a minimum of 1,000 Gems, which is the equivalent of $10. In addition to regular payment methods, Boxed.gg allows you to buy Gems using CS skins. In that case, you’ll be redirected to SkinBack, where you will complete the transaction.
There are four possible things you can do with your items: withdraw them, sell them back to the platform, trade them on the marketplace, or forge them. I’ve explained each one below:

During my Boxed.gg review, the subscription option caught my attention. There are three different options: Pro, Plus, and Ultimate. Each one unlocks better perks, such as more bonus Gems, discounted shopping vouchers, free keys, and a subscriber-only chat. It’s an optional subscription service; you don’t have to opt into any of them to open boxes on the site.
If you ever hit a roadblock when using Boxed.gg, contact support via live chat, Discord, or email. I prefer live chat or Discord because both connect me to a real person, and from my experience, the customer support team is knowledgeable. You also get detailed, helpful responses via email, but it might take up to 24 hours.
Boxed.gg has a community chat section where you can interact with other players. While this is not a support option, you can drop your question there and get feedback from users. Or, you can check the FAQ page. It’s not as comprehensive as I would have liked, but it still covers major topics like free boxes, KYC, and shipping.

Once I got the hang of the site, I explored and was impressed with what I found. The variety of digital boxes is a major highlight, as it gives you more than enough options with different prices to choose from. As if that wasn’t enough, the operator has vending machines where you’re guaranteed to pull an NM single or an authenticated slab.
The free box got me started on the right foot. Then, I looked forward to Gem missions and poll questions that are easy to answer. The site supports various payment methods, quick shipping, and solid customer support. Simply put, Boxed.gg was 100% worth my time. If you want to check it out yourself, click the link on this page. This takes you to the official site where you can register.
Yes, you can open Boxed.gg mystery boxes for free, but only if the platform offers you one. You receive these boxes through the welcome bonus and Luckback program. If you do not have a free box in your account, you have to pay a specific number of Gems to open one of your choice.
Yes, the Boxed.gg unboxing process is fair. This is thanks to the provably fair system, which ensures that the outcome of every pull is verifiable. Just note that each item has its odds of winning, with high-value options having lower odds, and vice versa.
The best way to pull an authentic slab is through the vending machine. Each machine contains 250+ trading cards, and the platform guarantees that you get an authentic slab or an NM single with every pull.
