The Bill SB S5935, which aimed to make online sweepstakes casinos illegal, was approved by the Assembly. Making sweepstakes online casinos illegal in the state.
- June 11, 2025:
SB S5935 is approved by the New York Senate after a landslide vote of 57-2 before being sent to the Assembly.
- June 6, 2025:
In June 2025, Letitia James, the New-York Attorney General, in collaboration with the New York State Gaming Commission, issued cease-and-desist notices to over 20 online sweepstakes casinos, which were deemed to be operating illegally. Some of the operators affected by this include Jackpota, Sweeptastic, Chumba, MegaBonanza, Sidepot, and RealPrize, among others.
- May 18, 2025:
SB S5935 passes the Senate Racing, Gaming & Wagering Committee after a unanimous vote. It was then forwarded to the Senate floor.
- March 4, 2025:
The SB S5935 was introduced by Sen. Joseph Addabbo to the New York Senate. It aimed to make online sweepstakes games illegal in the state of New York.
- January 21, 2025:
Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. has introduced SB 2614 in a bid to regulate online gambling in the state. If approved, the bill proposes a tax rate of 30.5% on gross gaming revenue for licensed operators, along with a $2 million licensing fee. In contrast, contractors offering branded gaming platforms will be required to pay a $10 million licensing fee, with each license allowing all operators to run one branded platform.
