How Many Active Players Does Warzone Have

What happened to Call of Duty: Warzone? This free-to-play, first-person shooter (FPS) battle royale game took the gaming world by storm in March 2020. It attracted a large number of players quickly; in November 2022, it reached an all-time high of 488,897 concurrent users (ACU). While the player count has dropped since then, averaging around 83,220 daily players in the first months of 2024, with peaks exceeding 150,000, Warzone remains a significant force in the online gaming landscape.

Getting into the Warzone - Player Count

Since its launch, Warzone reached 100 million downloads in just over a year. However, the controversial Verdansk map was changed into Caldera in late 2021, resulting in a huge decline in its fan base.

Various community issues and cheating scandals also plunged the game further and struggled to maintain steady player numbers.

Never Say Die

Even though its user base has changed throughout a period Warzone's player community is still rather active in 2024. Based on the last quarter stats from SteamCharts, you may get a clear indication that the game is still alive.

  • Multiple Platform. PC players (Battle.net & Steam) make up a sizable section of the Warzone player community, however, the game is also played on consoles (PS5 + PS4 and Xbox (Series X|S + One). Moreover, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, a mobile version, will be released worldwide in March 2024 for iOS (Apple devices running iOS 16.0 or later with at least 3 GB of RAM (except iPhone 8) and Android (4 GB of RAM and running Android Adreno 618 or better).
  • Active and Engaged Players. Despite the dip, Warzone still has a loyal and active community. The steady count of 80,000+ players every day proves it, providing a lively space for gamers.

Warzone's eSports scene had a significant boom in its first year, with the total prize pool more than doubling from USD 2.83 million in 2020 to USD 6.12 million in 2021. Its largest market was microtransactions, such as cosmetic upgrades and weapon blueprints, generated through player engagement.

However, the current decline in player count impacts the game's revenue stream, with the total prize pool falling to just under $1.9 million. This dip suggests a potential shift in the competitive landscape of Warzone.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War are also projected to boost Warzone's user base. Even though it could be challenging to recover its former glory, Warzone's ongoing revenue growth indicates a passionate player community. Warzone may or may not be able to reclaim its throne, but one thing is certain: a return is possible.
